What My Customers Say
Exceptional Craftsmanship: Staircase & Decking Transformation
“I cannot recommend Ian highly enough. Last year Ian did a couple of big projects for us at our home, a custom interior staircase and a completely new outdoor decking area. The results were exactly what we wanted.
The Staircase
The oak staircase is a real feature of the house. The joinery is seamless, and the attention to detail in the handrails and spindles is fantastic. It’s not just a functional upgrade; it’s a piece of furniture in its own right. Ian made the new staircase feel like it was always meant to be there.
The Decking
Outside, the transformation is just as impressive. The decking was a complex build due to our uneven garden levels, but Ian managed to find a solution that is both incredibly sturdy and aesthetically great. The precision of the cuts and the hidden fastening system he used gives it such a clean, high-end finish.
Stuart, Harrogate
“We restored a Georgian house in Harrogate and Ian undertook all the joinery work (oak flooring, stairs and banisters, replacement windows, fitted kitchen and bookshelves) to a vey high standard. He built a number of outdoor green oak structures, including a much-admired pergola.
Ian is a real craftsman, meticulous in his work, and a delight to have working in the house. We have no hesitation in recommending him very highly indeed.”

I have used Ian’s services a few times now including an incredible ‘catio’ that he built for my fur-babies, and a fireplace surround that he built and tiled (not an easy job, as it contained a back boiler!). He is professional, competent, cheerful, has a great ‘can – do’ attitude, works to a very high standard and always cleans up after himself! Wouldn’t use any other joiner.
Thanks Ian.

I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend him.”

Ian Lawrence Joinery have completed a number of joinery / carpentry projects within our house.
The most recent task was a replacement of stairs and construction of an entrance vestibule; I can’t express how satisfied we are with the quality of the products he used and the skill that was used in what seemed a major task in an occupied house. The disruption was kept to an absolute minimum and we are extremely pleased with the work.
One of the first tasks he carried out for us was the construction of a false chimney breast to finish our newly fitted oak kitchen. He designed the chimney breast himself and constructed it to a point that allowed second fixing of cooker hoods and vent fans buy others and then finished with plaster board and oak finished lintels and small stacked drawers. It still looks like it was part of the original kitchen.
Ian has undertaken many other smaller tasks such as replacing many old internal doors and also a New solid oak front door, including new frame and over light
His workmanship is second to none that I have seen and we are extremely happy to recommend him to any new customers.

We’ve had Ian carry out a number of joinery jobs for us over the past couple of years, and every single one has been done to a really high standard. From the first visit, it was clear we were dealing with someone who genuinely knows his trade and takes pride in his work.
What stands out about Ian is the whole package. He turns up when he says he will, he’s friendly and easy to have around the house, and he takes the time to talk through what you want and offer sensible suggestions when something isn’t quite going to work the way you’d imagined. The quality of the finished work speaks for itself, and he always leaves everything clean and tidy at the end of the day.
It’s rare these days to find a tradesman you can trust completely, but Ian is exactly that. We’ve recommended him to friends and family without hesitation, and we’ll keep calling him whenever we have something that needs doing properly. Forty years of experience really does show.

We’d 100% recommend Ian. We love the floating shelves and cupboard which he built in our lounge. More recently he built us some wardrobes. I considered different options for this room but none of the fitted furniture companies were able to work with me to use the existing frame and maintain the ceiling coving.
The solution Ian came up with was great. He even brought in a decorator to work his magic on the very uneven ceiling.
We are very happy with the result – the wardrobes look lovely and provide us with hugely practical storage.
